Yes it is possible to use your cell phone in Mexico. Please check the chart below to see if your company has service. Check rates before you use as the service can cost over $1.99 per minute!! Of course it will also be necessary to have a cell phone with the proper technology to use international service. GSM is the international standard although some CDMA/TDMA phones may work there as well. Please check with your provider to see if your phone qualifies or check the chart below. It is almost always necessary to turn on the international service before you travel to Mexico. If you are supposed to have service but it does not work, try doing a complete power down of your phone and restart to see if it registers on the network. Sometimes you may be required to program your phone when you arrive by selecting services to receive.

Another way is to have a phone for Mexico. Save your old phone. If it is compatible with Mexico providers it is possible to have the phone unlocked (service providers lock phones to their service only) and then get a mexico chip for $10 with service for around .20 per minute local and .50 to call back to the USA. Many times they will give you the chip for free to use their service. There are monthly rates and per minute rates.
